Babysitting Agencies: What You Should Know

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009
by Rashel Dan

Babysitting agencies can help you a lot. If you’re looking for a sitter, then the best place to look for one is in an agency. Getting a sitter from an agency will give you some assurance that procedures have been followed to ensure that you have a qualified sitter. Different agencies however have different methods and procedures. You would want to be with an agency that can source the best sitters. How do you know that you are with a good agency?

Source of Sitters

Background of Agency – Finding out about an agency’s background is a given. Your next step should be finding our exactly where they get their sitters. It would be good if an agency can get sitters from various sources. After all, this is not a question of discriminating against certain places as sources for sitters. It’s about finding out how they screen their applicants.

A good agency would typically conduct preliminary checks, investigation and screening. This includes verifying a sitters real identity and checking for past records of cases of misdemeanor. Determine how an agency conducts its checks.

Agency Requirements for Sitters

An agency would have specific requirements before they accept sitters. What exactly are these requirements? Are sitters required to have certificates in first aid courses? In some cases, sitter applicants aren’t required to have these certificates. This is because not every sitter would have the motivation or resources to take these courses. Some agencies however take it upon themselves to provide learning opportunities. A sitter who is well-versed in emergency response is valuable. You would want a sitter who can respond to emergencies and accidents.

Sitter Matching

Good babysitting agencies shouldn’t just offer you any sitter. They should be able to offer you a sitter who can respond specifically to your needs. Your sitter for example should be able to work well with kids who have the same ages as yours. You may also have special requirements such as sitters being able to cook as well. Find out how an agency will help you find the exact sitter that you need. Some agencies will help you interview their sitters so you can find a good match. Others will interview you personally so they can determine your needs and find a sitter who fits.

Agency Guarantees

Ask about some form of guarantee. Products typically have money back guarantees. Agencies on the other hand have guarantees for replacements. This is important because there will be instances when your sitter will be unable to come in. It is also quite possible that you may not be satisfied with your sitter and would like a replacement. Will your agency replace a sitter at no extra cost?

Cost

As with everything else, the price is a crucial factor. How much do you have to pay your agency for a sitter? You may have to pay an initial fee whether or not you finally decide to get a sitter from them. Some agencies have non-refundable initial fees. You then have to pay for a placement fee. This amount covers the costs for agency services include background checks. In some cases you may have to pay extra for transportation costs. Once you have your sitter, you have to pay her an agreed sum every month.

You may have to spend a bit more with an agency than if you try looking for a sitter yourself. If you think about it though, the cost may be worth every penny. Just think about it as paying a large amount for the safety of your kids.

Pool Safety For Kids

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009
by Marion Rose Jones

Owning a swimming pool on your property can be a great way to have fun for yourself and your entire family. However, despite that, it can also be very dangerous if you have children around. If you have the patience, you should wait until your kids are at least five years old or more before you put a swimming pool on your property. On the other hand, if you already have a swimming pool, there are ways that you can safe-guard your children.

One thing you should always keep in mind is to never, ever, allow your children to be alone near your pool. Children are attracted to water and all it takes is a second for them to be in the swimming pool. If you and your children are at your pool side and you have to leave the area even for a second, you must always take your children with you.

To be completely safe, you must always make sure that you have plenty of safety equipment around your pool at all times. Safety items are essential to have around, as they could save the life of a child or in fact, anyone else who can’t swim.

You should invest in a shepherd’s hook too, as you can use it to pull someone out of the water. Having a phone at your pool is also a good investment, as you can quickly call for help in the event of an emergency.

If you don’t already have a fence around your pool you should think about getting one. A fence is a useful way to keep children from your pool. If you have a protective fence up, you don’t have to worry about little children falling in, while you are away from the pool. When you put your fence up, you should always make sure that it’s at least 6 foot high, with a locking gate. This way, no one can get into the pool without a key, which you should keep with you at all times.

You should learn artificial respiration as well. Even though you hopefully will not ever have to use it. It is always great to know artificial respiration in the event of someone falling into your pool that is unable to swim. Whenever you have children you know can’t swim at your pool, you should always stay within reach of them, so you can react instantly if they fall in. A minute can make all the difference to saving someone’s life.

Always keep in mind that a swimming pool is for having fun in, although you have to always think in terms of safety first too. Once you have finished enjoying your pool for the day, make sure that you secure the poolside well – and padlock the gate tight so no one can get in too.

Major Precautionary Steps To Take Before You Find A Baby Sitter

Hiring a babysitter for the household is getting more and more popular among families. No longer are sitter just for the highly privileged families”numerous middle-class families are considering this type of childcare for more safety, flexibility with time and convenience.

One of the advantages of having a babysitter around for your kids is that it can minimize the stress while you are working over-time, for instance. This is especially true for busy parents who can suddenly have changes in plans and out-of-town appointment. Now, they have the option of contacting the agency you trust and having someone come over to your home right away. So what considerations must you take before deciding on a babysitter? Lets find out.

Before hiring a babysitter, the first major step is to really check on the qualifications of the potential babysitter. Its advised to hire babysitters who have already taken some form of babysitting training, such as babysitting classes. The majority of temporary babysitters are teens who have their own tight schedules. They have hours of schooling to do, homework, extracurricular activities, friends to meet and chores to complete in their own home.

Actual training and experience should be one of the criteria in choosing a babysitter. A great way to find professional babysitters is to jump online. Not only is using the Internet fast and convenient, but it can also be safe and reliable if you just know where to look and what to consider.

Needless to say, look for someone who is dependable, responsible and of course, available. Find an agency online”not just any agency though. Make sure the website you are looking at is reputable and has served customers for a considerable amount of time. Ask around if they have heard of such an agency. Obtaining referrals are always a good idea.

Before you hire a babysitter, you have a number of considerations to take into heart. Do not hire babysitters who are below 13 years of age. Young children generally call for older babysitters, who typically have more maturity and experience in caring for infants. Consider hiring babysitters who are familiar with CPR and first aid. Inquire about the sitters training, what age groups he or she worked with and the length of time he or she has been babysitting.

Learn more about the potential babysitter. Set up an interview to personally evaluate the potential babysitters sense of responsibility, understanding of children, temperament, ability to comprehend and abide by the rules or instructions, common sense, and so on. See to it that your kids are comfortable with the sitter. And finally, consider the costs”ask around how much your friends, colleagues and neighbors are paying for their sitters. Of course, quality of care must come first.

Some parents would want a trial run with many babysitters to establish who works best with your kids. If its your first time hiring a sitter, consider spending at least an hour at home while the sitter is watching over your kids. This is a good way to observe how much you can actually trust him or her. Use your gut feeling”if there is anything that makes you even the slightest uncomfortable with the sitter, do not bother hiring.
