So You Want A Garden Gazebo?

Saturday, July 4th, 2009
by Margaret Granholm

Gazebos started to become popular in the US in the mid 1800’s Gazebos have been around for thousands of years and can be traced as far back as ancient Egypt, 5000 years ago. They were popular in the middle ages, as well as in Persia.

Gazebos have been going in and out of popularity for hundreds of years. Sometimes being seen as a status symbol, only to be outranked by some new status symbol such as the large porches that became popular at the turn of the last century, and again in the 1940’s when large patios were the current rage.

Sometimes during the 1980’s the Gazebo fever came back strongly, and have been on an upswing since then. The multitude of designs and materials and blueprints along with ready made gazebo kits can make deciding on a gazebo a fun and exciting journey.

Gazebos are most commonly constructed of wood or vinyl. Metal and plastic glass is sometimes used. Bamboo is another material. The gazebos can be open or closed with ornate 2 tiered roofs, with elaborate wood work adorning the entire structure.

Take your time browsing the available gazebos. Or the available blue prints if you have decided to do the construction from scratch. What works with your garden, and your style? An elegant or rustic gazebo? Ornate with intricate design and beautiful details? Or plain and rustic?

So, you see, there are a lot of details you need to work out before you make a final decision on design. Will you construct a concrete floor, or make a wooden pad for the gazebo? Will you want a chimney to add a fireplace for chilly evenings? (Think roasted marshmallows and toddy)The only limit is your imagination. A garden gazebo will bring pleasure and beauty for your garden for many years to come.

Landscaping Tampa Gardens – The Hidden Costs Involved

When you are considering landscaping your Tampa garden one of the first things you need to decide, is just what you want done. The next decision you need to make when landscaping Tampa gardens is how much you are willing to spend on the project.

It is vital that you plan everything in advance as this will help you with actually staying within the constraints of your budget. Also you need to make sure that the Tampa landscaping service you choose to carry out the project will stick with what you ask of them.

Planning out your landscaping budget will help to see what parts of the project you can afford to get done immediately, and which ones will have to wait until other funds become available. After you have set your budget then you should make sure that you stick with it at all times.

When you are devising your landscaping budget there are certain hidden costs which need to be taken into consideration and where you may find yourself not budgeting enough for them. Below we take a look at just what some of these hidden costs are.

Lighting – Many people like to have some form of lighting in their garden to enable them to highlight certain features in their garden or to make a space better suited for using to entertain in. But if you want to have lighting installed in your garden as part of your landscaping design be aware that it is going to be costly to run. However, there are certain things one can do to help keep these costs down, one way to save on your electricity bill costs is to have solar powered lighting installed.

The other things you can do if you choose to have lighting that runs off electricity is to only turn it on when it is required. For example when you are entertaining people in the garden late on a summer’s evening. The other thing to do is put in them energy saving bulbs.

Water Consumption – If you are considering having any kind of water feature as part of the landscaping design in your garden then you need to take in the cost of how much this will cost to run. Again you need to factor in how much each month your electricity bill will increase by when the feature is on. Plus you also need to take into consideration how much additional water you are going to be using.

Certainly if you live in a part of Tampa where usage of water is charged for when you have used a certain amount this could prove to be even more costly. Quite a number of people think that having a water feature is wonderful when planning out a new design for their garden landscape. But then find afterwards that they can’t actually afford to run it.

It is crucial that you are aware of the hidden costs involved when having your garden landscape redesigned. Keeping these in mind will help you to keep in mind what your budget is for landscaping Tampa gardens.

Rat Troubles? Control Them The Green Way

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009
by Paul Regis

Ok we’ve all encountered rodent problems before. I also know what a drag it can be killing these little pests. Not to mention the fact that spraying poison all over your health can’t be good for your health, or our planet for that matter. If these things concern you, but you still need a solution for rat control, you’re in luck!

Throw away those old traps! Get rid of the poison! First off, traps don’t just catch rats, other small animals can be hurt. Poison is a bad choice for two reasons. First death by poison is slow and horribly painful to the rats. Secondly, if a rat predator happens to get to the carcass before you, and eats the poisoned rat, the other animal gets killed too. Who wants the karma of killing things anyway?

No killing, and no harming the planet. We’ve established we’re all for it. It’s a good thing there are green solutions to our rat problems. Repellents. All natural rat repellents. They are non toxic and non invasive to humans. The rats cant stand the way they smell. It’s a win-win! No harsh gross chemicals to make you, your family and your co-workers sick, and the rats stay away to live healthy happy lives, outside where they belong!

It’s true that there are other options for rat control. Many people use exterminators, and some use humane traps to catch these rodents. Extermination can leave dead animals in or near your home or business, though, and humane traps leave the question of what to do with the rat once it’s caught. If you let it go too near your home, it’s only going to find its way back.

You should also do what you can to discourage rats from coming near your property. Don’t leave food out or leave your garbage cans full and open to the elements. Make sure that you keep bird feeders and compost piles away from other areas where rats could live and breed.

100 years from now, your great grand children will be born into a less polluted world. If we all take steps now to stop using harmful chemicals. To stop killing pests. Being an environmentalist doesn’t mean you have to put up with pests in your home or office. Just think twice before using poisons. Repellents are all natural and do the trick humanely. Keep our water chem-free. Use natural repellents.

True rat control comes from humanely disposing of the rats that you already have and keeping new rats from thinking your home or business is a good place to be. If they don’t find shelter and food there, they won’t hang around. Using all-natural rat repellents can help to ensure that they go elsewhere to look for their next meal and that they don’t make their nests where they aren’t wanted.
