Some Suggestions For New Age Office Space Planning

Friday, July 31st, 2009
by Raechelle Morgan

The business environment is always subject to change, and new corporate environments emerge as a result of these changes. The office layout that fitted an office a few years ago may be redundant in today’s context. In order to stay with the changing times, office system furniture should also be contemporary to suit the latest standards and ensure smooth operations within the office. Given below are some recommendations that will enable you to successfully remodel your office space.

Good office planning should begin with discarding items that cause clutter in the office without serving any purpose. Massive file cabinets meant for keeping folders that contain official documents and records of earlier transactions occupy a lot of area in the office. Recent times have witnessed great advancements in communication technology along with data storage systems. Advanced technology is both a space saver as well as cost saver alternative, and it also makes work streamlined and more productive.

Having big storage furniture removed creates space, which offers interesting possibilities of intelligent usage. The new space created can be converted into a place where the staff can relax by engaging in informal interaction with each other. The vacant spaces can also allow the staff to spread out their office desks over a greater area, thereby creating more space to sit comfortably at work.

Hanging cables in an office that are fully exposed not only look ugly but also obstruct free and secure movement, and enhance the danger of an electrical shock. Therefore, there should be hollow spaces in office desks where the wires can be piled up. Plug points should be near the workers’ desks and must be appropriately fixed so that they don’t protrude out from the walls and spoil the appearance of the wall.

Conference rooms, which serve as meeting places for clients and office teams, must not be overlooked during office planning. The employers should not compromise on space while planning for conference rooms, so that important meetings can go on conveniently. Conference rooms should have office chairs that are light enough to be easily rearranged to create more space inside the halls during big staff meetings.

Office space planning is usually best handled by experts having a solid experience in this area. They can create a 3D design of your new office plan on the computer, highlighting the arrangement of office desks and office chairs, so that you can decide if their design suits your need. With trained professionals and their modern technology at your service, you can be rest assured that the office space planning will be of superior quality and will effectively cater to your organization’s needs.

The New Rise of Alternative Energy

Thursday, July 9th, 2009
by Sam Reynolds

There’s a lot more news about alternative energies recently. Different people have different ideas about just what it is. They also have different ideas about how long alternative energy has been around. I wrote this article to give my perspective on

alternative energy is commonly used to refer to sources of energy that are an alternative to coal, oil and natural gas. These fossil fuels have been the most common source of our energy for generations.

However our reliance on fossil fuels is relatively recent. It wasn’t that long ago that ships were powered by sales and horses move goods and people on land.

I’m sure you seen a picture of a ranch house in the American West with the windmill next to the homestead. They originally were used to pump water. Later they were actually used to generate a small amount of electric power (say, enough to power of crystal radio) in the days before rural electrification

Early in the 20th century nearly 1/3rd of homes in Florida used solar hot water. The availability of cheap electricity in the 1940’s changed that. At one point electric companies were even giving away hot water heaters to encourage consumption.

I think you can see that our dependence on fossil fuels is relatively recent. Rather than something completely new, using alternative energies is a return to an older practice.

With that background, here’s my working definition of alternative energy: energy from a source other than the burning of fossil fuels (again coal, oil and its derivatives and natural gas).

While many people automatically assume that alternative energy sources are renewable, that isn’t necessarily so. For example, burning peat for heat is an alternative energy, but it is neither clean nor renewable.

Concern for the environment has made people aware of the impact of burning fossil fuels. While price fluctuations and occasional interruptions and supplies makes it clear that we are also running out a fossil fuel. Factors such as these have led to the increased interest in returning to alternative energy sources.

When people think about alternative energy solar panels and windmills are probably the most common things that come to mind. However there are many other forms of alternative energy are ready available (for example geothermal and biomass) and researchers are exploring some entirely new possibilities

My expectation is that in the not-too-distant future the tables will turn: what we consider “alternative” today will be the standard tomorrow. Burning fossil fuels will be oddball alternative.

by Tom Sanderrs

You love the rustic lifestyle and your home is decorated with a hunting lodge theme, stuffed trophy mounts, lots of bear and deer collectibles, fishing creels, and log furniture. Braided rugs are scattered over hardwood floors, and the fireplace is the heart of your home. You live in an outdoorsman’s paradise, but you don’t want to live in the dark ages!

Quality, adequate lighting is important in every home-no matter what the style. And not only is it functional, but it also adds to the look, feel, and value of your home.

Regardless of your choice of decor, there are light fixtures and lighting options to fit every decorating style or taste. If you own a cozy log cabin or a rustic retreat, forget all about those plastic and fake brass fixtures of the past! Track lighting isn’t your taste? Say no more! You can find gorgeous lighting to suit your space-and illuminate the place-in style!

Today’s lighting and light fixtures are available in a wide variety of materials and styles. Fixtures are made from natural materials like wood and bamboo, distressed metals like hammered bronze, wrought iron, pewter, and copper-and even from wagon wheels and deer, moose, or elk antlers-either real or cast (manufactured).

Imagine a moose antler chandelier hanging down from a long chain or wrought iron rod in the middle of your great room. Very impressive! Hammered bronze floor lamps stand on either side of your leather chairs while matching hammered bronze table lamps sit on the side tables flanking the leather sofa. Your lighting choices are the perfect accompaniment to your warm gathering place in front of the fire.

In the dining room, a wagon wheel light fixture hangs centered over the antique pine table and chairs you inherited from your grandmother. You can already visualize the children (and the grandchildren you will have someday) gathered around that table on Thanksgiving day, the light reflecting in their joyful eyes.

Wrought iron or bamboo lighting is perfect for a bathroom. These fixtures can be put around a large mirror or over a sink. By adding a wrought iron pendant light over a bathtub or a whirlpool you can even create a spa-like atmosphere in your rustic styled home.

Faux alabaster sconces flank distinctive artwork on large canvases in your entryway, and there is a coordinating wrought iron and faux alabaster chandelier hanging overhead. What a statement it makes when your guests arrive to visit.

Ever detail is attended to, and every detail adds to the warmth and cozy country feel of your lovely rustic home. It’s the perfect place for family and friends to gather and a relaxing respite from the rest of the world at the end of a long day.

Fortunately, today there are enough styles of light fixtures to match any kind of home decor. It no longer matters if you want a modern or rustic look since there are light fixtures available that will blend in and even enhance the feel you are trying to create. Fixtures also come in all price ranges and are functional, as well as attractive. Decorating is now just as fun as purchasing the light fixtures.

by Stewart Mathers

The price of electrical energy is rising and the best choice that we have today is using solar energy. The genuine reason for this being burnt that fossil fuels like coal, which in turn is being used to provide power,so if we’d like our future to be the greenest, this is the time we step forward and start using solar technology needed for Electric power bitching that have constantly supported that electricity is of utmost significance and desires to remain are:

1) Need for light and power after it becomes dark 2) Need for appliances to work so the food we eat remains edible. Not having the power to use electricity for either work or amusement would be a great hamper on living as we all know it.

Varieties of solar power products are the actual reason that many folks do not use solar power is usually because they’re not conscious of what all it has got to offer. Thsi being announced that they don’t seem to be mindful of what all products are available that might be used with the help of solar energy for a mean home.

In reality, you can put in solar energy systems that range between miniscule portable systems for your vacation home to giant permanent solar electricity systems that are built right into your house as either a standalone system or a grid system. It is this wide-ranging pliability linked with the incontrovertible fact that it’s a renewable generally available power source that makes it such a great thing. You can start out tiny with individual systems like solar water heater, solar shower, solar lighting, solar fans.

That isn’t all these days we also have solar radios, solar cookers and solar purification systems. Solar power is far more helpful as it could be applied to recharge your electric batteries and you will also power up each single appliance in your place with the help of the right solar system. It is simply a matter of determining where you want to use it. Solar energy can be employed in your garden or home. There are a mess of uses for solar power round the household. After you discover solar energy for the family home, you can notice that you can power up almost any electrical appliance or machine with the right solar power system and supplies.

After reading the above article you can instantly begin to see where and how applying solar energy would benefit you, your money and your children. Just remember that todays savings could lead to a bright and healthy future.

What is Solar Energy?

Monday, June 22nd, 2009
by Walter Hull

The Sun is like a giant power station, making solar energy for us each and every day. Without this daily dose of solar power, Earth would not be even close to the same. Literally the difference would be like night and day.

The term solar energy is used to describe electromagnetic radiation released by the sun. This radiation is extremely important to the Earths biosphere, and is the source of our existence. It is the catalyst for life as we know it on our planet.

Electromagnetic radiation is composed of tiny invisible energy waves, all traveling at the speed of light (3×108 meters per second). Forms of electromagnetic radiation include X-rays, gamma waves, radio waves, microwaves, infrared waves, ultra-violet waves, and the visible light spectrum. The only difference between the waves is their frequency of resonance, and they are characterized based on this.

Solar energy is the primary element for Photosynthesis, the method by which plants make energy for growth. Plants in term provide us with food, wood, medicines, and more.

Solar energy is also the primary element that forms weather patterns. The Sun warms the surface of the earth, whereby wind patterns develop. Solar energy is absorbed in the oceans, and this helps form the currents. Evaporation caused by solar energy is what fundamentally leads to clouds and thunderstorms.

And so it is no surprise that solar energy is at the root of almost all physical processes that occur on Earth. Without this valuable resource life as we know it would not exist.

Imagine if the Sun suddenly burned out, which scientists predict will happen someday. It is a reminder of the delicate balance to our existence, that Mother Nature will always hold the trump card to human prosperity. We should offer thanks for each and every day that we are blessed with the Sun.

Thinking about it like that, we should probably all wake in the Morning and give thanks to the Sun. It is the single item in our existence we take most for granted. What if the Sun disappeared for one day? Just think of the mayhem and chaos this would create. And think of all the solar energy that would be lost all over the world.

With the recent advances in materials and industry, we now find ourselves with some new inventions for working with solar energy. It is now possible to make electricity directly from sunlight in a photovoltaic device. We can harness solar energy in absorption and concentrating collectors and store the heat.

The time has come now to discuss solar energy in different terms. Mankind has become clever these past few generations, and developed new methods to harness this energy. We now have ways to convert solar energy directly into electricity. And weve developed several new inventions for absorbing solar energy and making high temperature heat.

How practical is current technology for providing power to our homes? How much money will it cost, and how much will we save in the long run? What kind of new solar energy technologies are in development? We started out asking these same questions ourselves, and we are here as professionals from the Energy industry to present a few honest answers straight from the energy specialists.

Green Products Wind Power: Renewable Electrical Power

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009
by Michael Edwards

While doing some research at Green Products we ran across a new generation of windmills. This new generation of windmill has conquered many of the problems that have inundated many productions windmills, even up to the recent past — mostly over-speed problems and initial wind power required to start the windmill.

Modern designs and new lighter, stronger materials have come together to produce windmills that will last for many years without costly repairs. In fact, most of the major producers are offering five-year manufacturer’s guarantees.

So how does it all work? There are two types of basic windmills in production: the propeller driven and the vertical driven designs. You need a picture of the vertical one. Both types of windmill are connected to a generator. The output from the generator is run through an inverter/converter to an electrical meter, which in turn is connected to your home meter. Since most meters are designed to be able to run backwards, they can be used to record your windmill’s output.

The net meter is designed to rotate in either direction. When it rotates clockwise, you are storing electricity for future use. When the meter is rotating counter-clockwise, you are being charged for electricity. If at the end of your billing cycle you have put more in reserve than you used, you won’t be billed for that month. Now that would be nice!

What are your risks? Generally just 2. The first is cash outlay – and the time it will take to pay off your initial purchase price before you see any savings, or as accountants like to call it, your Return on Investment (ROI). The other area of risk is mechanical failure. Just like any mechanical device, the better you maintain it the longer it will last.

One of the nice offsets is the rebates and tax credits you will get for installing a unit. In some cases, $11,000 or more is paid to you to offset the cost of the windmill. In California, this could bring the cost of install down to around 4,600 dollars.

In order to install one, your must first check to see if your have the space the unit will need. Then, will local code allow you to erect a 35-50 foot monopole? And finally, does the city have codes in place to prevent the installation (and/or prohibitive fees)? This could be a godsend for a small farm or a business in an unincorporated section of town.

In our next article from Green Products, let’s see what it would take to get completely off the electrical grid. Is it possible?

Rat Troubles? Control Them The Green Way

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009
by Paul Regis

Ok we’ve all encountered rodent problems before. I also know what a drag it can be killing these little pests. Not to mention the fact that spraying poison all over your health can’t be good for your health, or our planet for that matter. If these things concern you, but you still need a solution for rat control, you’re in luck!

Throw away those old traps! Get rid of the poison! First off, traps don’t just catch rats, other small animals can be hurt. Poison is a bad choice for two reasons. First death by poison is slow and horribly painful to the rats. Secondly, if a rat predator happens to get to the carcass before you, and eats the poisoned rat, the other animal gets killed too. Who wants the karma of killing things anyway?

No killing, and no harming the planet. We’ve established we’re all for it. It’s a good thing there are green solutions to our rat problems. Repellents. All natural rat repellents. They are non toxic and non invasive to humans. The rats cant stand the way they smell. It’s a win-win! No harsh gross chemicals to make you, your family and your co-workers sick, and the rats stay away to live healthy happy lives, outside where they belong!

It’s true that there are other options for rat control. Many people use exterminators, and some use humane traps to catch these rodents. Extermination can leave dead animals in or near your home or business, though, and humane traps leave the question of what to do with the rat once it’s caught. If you let it go too near your home, it’s only going to find its way back.

You should also do what you can to discourage rats from coming near your property. Don’t leave food out or leave your garbage cans full and open to the elements. Make sure that you keep bird feeders and compost piles away from other areas where rats could live and breed.

100 years from now, your great grand children will be born into a less polluted world. If we all take steps now to stop using harmful chemicals. To stop killing pests. Being an environmentalist doesn’t mean you have to put up with pests in your home or office. Just think twice before using poisons. Repellents are all natural and do the trick humanely. Keep our water chem-free. Use natural repellents.

True rat control comes from humanely disposing of the rats that you already have and keeping new rats from thinking your home or business is a good place to be. If they don’t find shelter and food there, they won’t hang around. Using all-natural rat repellents can help to ensure that they go elsewhere to look for their next meal and that they don’t make their nests where they aren’t wanted.

Choosing the Right Treatment for Angiosarcoma

Monday, June 1st, 2009
by Roger Skarmore

Angiosarcoma is a rare but extremely insidious type of cancer. The tumors grow and spread rapidly but not easily detected. When symptoms appear, the disease is typically well in the advanced stage. When diagnosis is delayed, treatment for angiosarcoma is usually late and ineffective.

Options for treatment include:

*Chemotherapy

*Radiation

*Surgical resection

These rare tumors are invasive and malignant. Angiosarcomas start on the cells that make up the lining of blood vessels. Characterized by wide infiltration and very rapid spreading, this cancer may occur in breast, bone, liver, spleen or the heart. It may occur in any organ of the body. Tumors that appear on the neck and head are called Cutaneous Angiosarcoma.

With primary angiosarcomas, surgical resection is usually used. The main purpose is to be able to define tumor-free margins more accurately. Tumors are easier to detect at microscopic level than at the cellular level. Radiotherapy is also performed as part of the treatment regimen. There are case studies that show positive outcome (i.e. higher survival rate) when radiation followed the resection procedure. However, radiotherapy is not recommended as primary treatment.

Chemotherapy can also be added as part of the over-all treatment for angiosarcoma. A combination of surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy is quite formidable and is often recommended. However, the sequence that gives the best results is still unknown. In the meantime, these treatments are typically given through individualized methods. Careful diagnosis and planning are always crucial pre-operative steps for treatment by surgery. Patients who are impossible to receive surgical resection are given the option of chemotherapy or chemo-radiation. Chemotherapy drugs may be injected directly into the affected area or the site of tumor.

These treatment options, even when aggressive, are not effective if the tumor is diagnosed in its more advanced stage. Prognosis, therefore, is often poor.

There are drugs, known as angiogenesis inhibitors, being used to prevent new blood vessels from forming to stop tumor growth. Both Paclitaxel and Sorafenib are now being used with treatment for angiosarcoma. Paclitaxel has shown good results for treating the disease on the scalp and face. In the near future, a tumor suppressor gene, called P53, may also be available as treatment.

Reasons to Install Wind Turbine Alternative Energy Systems

Saturday, May 30th, 2009
by John Ashbury

People have many different reasons for deciding to install a wind turbine, or other alternative energy solution, in their home. Among the different reasons are the need to reduce the harmful effects on the environment as well as saving money.

Choosing to install a wind turbine system is a great idea. Wind turbine systems retail from anywhere between six thousand dollars to as much as twenty thousand dollars, however there are contributing factors that can influence the price of the system, such as the tower that you choose. Depending on the height of the tower as well as its size you can expect to pay accordingly.

Not only does the size and height of the tower affect the cost of the system but also the generator that you have in order to store the energy. While some are large and are able to store a large amount of energy, others are smaller. Although the cost might cause you to hesitate you would be wise to consider the cost of the electricity that you use without the system installed. By installing a wind turbine you can definitely expect to enjoy significant savings on your monthly electricity bill.

For many people these days the environment is a major contributing factor in their decision to have a wind powered systems installed in their home. They are aware of the damage done to the environment by traditional energy sources and choose to be more environmentally friendly. These systems emit far less gases into the air and also no pollution. The burning of coal, on the other hand, is very detrimental to the environment and is directly responsible for global warming. Wind turbines do not emit any pollution into the air.

A wind turbine system is powered by the wind blowing. Once you have a wind turbine system installed the turbine is completely powered when the wind blows. There are no costs associated with running a wind turbine system. It will run completely automatically and you are not required to do anything else. It is free and it consumes energy from the wind and converts it into free electricity.

A wind turbine system is an excellent addition that you can add to your home. When something like this is installed at a home you can write it off on your taxes as a credit. In addition, if you ever decide to move or sell the house then the turbine system will help with increasing the value of the home.

We all know that the cost of living is constantly on the rise. A wind powered system installed in your home means that in the future, when the cost of electricity has risen substantially higher than it is at the moment, you will not need to worry about that. Considering the fact that you will retire one day you can look forward to savings in the future as well. Energy from the wind is an excellent way to save money not only now but also in the future when you are budgeting on a pension.

For anyone wanting to save money alternative energy is the way to go. Besides the financial savings that you will enjoy you have the added benefit of knowing that you are doing your bit for the environment as well. If more people would consider having alternatie energy sources installed in their homes, such as wind energy systems, we could greatly reduce our impact on the environment and help to slow down the harmful process, with its unpleasant affects, of global warming.

Organizational Boundaries Defined by the Climate Registry

Thursday, May 28th, 2009
by Daniel Stouffer

The Climate Registry contains organizational boundaries. These are defined to enable the tracking, accounting and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions. Companies within the United States provid information on a voluntary basis to assist in the ongoing battle to reduce global warming potential.

Organizational boundaries define an entity’s operation and also specify whether it is controlled or owned by the company reporting. Reporting can be further based on an equity share or a consolidated control approach.

When it comes to defining organizational boundaries, an equity share of production is an accounting method involving a report for each operation based upon its share of the economic interests. A percentage would then reflect the extent of the ownership, or rights, and is based on the profit and loss share.

Organizational boundaries can be defined using the control approach. This approach determines an accounting method where an entity will report 100% of its GHG emissions, irregardless of ownership.

The Climate Registry is an important institution that aims to distribute information concerning greenhouse gas emissions. This nonprofit and nongovernmental organization has developed important standards used throughout North America to calculate and report emissions in a unified fashion. More than 330 corporations from all industry sectors, nonprofit groups and government entities are Registry members.

Organizational boundaries must be reported in full under the greenhouse gas emissions registry. Reports are required for revenue and nonrevenue services, administrative buildings, leased or owned stations and facilities, services provided under contract to another company, privately operated services, van pools and paratransit.

Greenhouse gases are of significant concern because they lead to global warming. Among these environmentally damaging gases are hydrochlorofluorocarbons, chlorofluorocarbons, hydrochlorofluorocarbons and perfluorocarbons, such as those found in refrigeration and cooling systems, carbon dioxide, methane, chlorine, bromine, nitrous oxide, methyl bromide, methyl chloroform, sulfur hexafluoride, hydroxyl, halons, carbon tetrachloride, fluorine, and the fluorinated gases hydrofluorinated ethers and nitrogen trifluoride.

In the Climate Registrys inventory management plan, facilities need to indicate whether they are reporting based on either the control approach with equity share using operational control criteria; control approach with equity share using financial control; control approach based on operational control; or control approach based using financial control criteria. The inventory reporting document also includes a facilities and association emissions section in which a master list of all the buildings under an entitys organizational boundaries must be listed, along with their addresses, percentage of ownership or control, types of emissions and type of equipment or source. Because of the complexity of emissions tracking and reporting, many facilities equipped with refrigeration and air-conditioning (RAC) systems or heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems are using refrigerant management programs to automatically track and report the information.
